چکیده

The Cooper’s D deposit has been dated by U-Pb at a maximum age of 1.37 Ma ± 0.113 and yielded seven Hominini remains, six them are attributed to the Southern African endemic species Paranthropus robustus Broom, 1938. However, taxonomic composition faunal assemblage recovered this site, especially ruminants, remains poorly understood. This paper updates previous palaeontological biochronological works provides first description paleoecological analysis whole bovid material from D. We propose minimum 1.0 for bone accumulation. Thus, we conclude that accumulated between 1.375 based on complementary results obtained radiometric dates biochronology. suggests is likewise dominated grassland with sparse covered habitat probable water sources in vicinity. Finally, show strong statistically significant negative correlation presence grassland-adapted P. robustus. result indicates was more likely be an eurytopic dietary generalist than exclusive grazer.

Indications of habitat association of Australopithecus robustus in the Bloubank Valley, South Africa.

Establishing the habitat preferences of early hominin taxa is a necessary, though difficult, requirement for understanding the interaction between environmental change and hominin evolution. The environments typically associated with Australopithecus robustus have been reconstructed as predominantly open grasslands situated within a habitat mosaic that included a more wooded component with a ne...

Strontium isotopic aspects of Paranthropus robustus teeth; implications for habitat, residence, and growth.

The strontium isotopic ratio 87Sr/86Sr has been studied in the Sterkfontein Valley of South Africa to infer both habitat usage and residence for a number of early hominins. This paper examines the existing 87Sr/86Sr data collectively derived from three studies of Paranthropus robustus teeth with the aim of exploring whether the dataset as a whole may provide deeper insight into habitat, mobilit...

The first hominin from the early Pleistocene paleocave of Haasgat, South Africa.

Haasgat is a primate-rich fossil locality in the northeastern part of the Fossil Hominid Sites of South Africa UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here we report the first hominin identified from Haasgat, a partial maxillary molar (HGT 500), that was recovered from an ex situ calcified sediment block sampled from the locality. The in situ fossil bearing deposits of the Haasgat paleokarstic deposits are...

Tetrameres numida n. sp. (Nematoda: Tetrameridae) from Helmeted guineafowls, Numida meleagris (Linnaeus, 1758), in South Africa.

Tetrameres numida n. sp. from the proventriculus of Helmeted guineafowls, Numida meleagris, in South Africa is described from eight male and four female specimens. The new species shares some characteristics with other Tetrameres species, but can be differentiated by a unique combination of characters. It bears two rows of cuticular spines extending over the whole length of the body and possess...

New fossil remains of Homo naledi from the Lesedi Chamber, South Africa

The Rising Star cave system has produced abundant fossil hominin remains within the Dinaledi Chamber, representing a minimum of 15 individuals attributed to Homo naledi. Further exploration led to the discovery of hominin material, now comprising 131 hominin specimens, within a second chamber, the Lesedi Chamber. The Lesedi Chamber is far separated from the Dinaledi Chamber within the Rising St...
